About Helen City Councilwoman Helen L. Holton is a resident of the West Hills Community located in the 8th District. She has proudly served the citizens of Baltimore since 1995 as a committed and hard working member of the Baltimore City Council. As a member of the Council, she currently serves on the following Committees and Boards:
In addition to her elected official responsibility, Helen extends herself by providing leadership to our city in numerous volunteer capacities. She serves on various boards and commissions including the University of Baltimore Alumni Association Board of Governors, the Maryland Food Bank, and the Baltimore Workforce Investment Board Youth Council. She is also a member of The Great Blacks in Wax Board of Trustees and the Maryland Humanities Council Martin Luther King, Jr. 40th Anniversary Advisory Council. Councilwoman Holton is a member of the national women’s public service organizations, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Links, Inc. She is an active member of her own community association, the Greater West Hills Community Association. Helen is an ordained minister and is a part of the ministerial leadership team at Payne Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church in West Baltimore. Professionally, Helen is a certified public accountant (CPA). She is employed as the Recruitment & Marketing Manager of a local public accounting firm. She has an extensive background in financial services: accounting, financial planning, insurance, strategic planning, business management and development, and other related areas. In preparation for a career in the financial services industry, she earned a B.S. degree in accounting at the University of Baltimore and later received the M.B.A. degree from the Johns Hopkins University. Helen earned a Master’s of Theology Degree and a Master’s Degree in Urban Ministry, both from St. Mary’s Seminary & University. Councilwoman Holton’s awards and honors include the BMore News Minority
Business Advocacy Recognition Award (2007), Special Recognition Award,
Black CEO Summit (2006), being named, three times, by The Daily
Record/Warfield’s Magazine as one of the Top 100 Women in Maryland
(1997, 2000, and 2003), the Baltimore Business Journal’s Forty Under 40
Recognition (1999), and the Verda F. Welcome Political Award (1997) among
others. |
